This thread is to share information about you if you want to.
About me:
I am a mental health counselor who has been practicing counseling for over 15 years. I mainly practice cognitive counseling, which to me means how the thoughts create feelings. You can change your thoughts about anything and therefore your feeling about the situation. There are some very difficult issues that people deal with and how they perceive the situation will determine how they cope with it. It is not an easy thing, but in order to survive and thrive one must tackle the many battles in life that occur. This board was created for people to help each other work through difficulties. Support from others can provide the scaffolding one needs to get through a difficult event. The human spirit is very strong and love and caring from others help us to endure the pain and move on. Whether you are experiencing a difficult event, or just trying to feel more functional by moving through a mood, this board was created to help you cope. I will provide information from many resources that can help one move through some sticky places. Your participation with others helps to create synergy, that is the combined effect of parts that exceeds their individual effects.
If you would like to share something about yourself you may do so here.
Here is an icebreaker activity that you may want to comment on:
People suck! What! How can you say such a thing!
People can be wonderful and people can help and love and share.
But people can get stuck in the negative (fear-based emotions) by being selfish, ignorant, attention seeking, greedy and so on. The point is we are all human and we are all seeking something. We are not perfect and we will make mistakes, hurt others-sometimes without intention. We are all learning and knowing that, we are here with nothing to prove, just to observe, learn and grow. Take some time and get to know yourself better and accept the parts that are less than perfect, knowing you can make changes and develop a stronger you.
We love to share our great stuff and tell how wonderful we are, but what about the demons that lurk in the closet? How might you write a resume for the not so great stuff? Procrastination, apathy, anger, jealousy, what else?
OR you may want to share your thoughts on:
What is the color of soft or rough?
What is the smell of blue or another color?
What is the sound of fur or green leaves or other?
What is the taste of happiness?
What is the feel of music?
What does warm sound like?
Make up your own.
